Does stress seem to get the better of you?

Does stress seem to get the better of you?

Studies reported in Scientific American emphasize the danger of stress to one’s health and well being. Students are more apt to get sick before exams and take up to twice as long to recover than during vacation periods. When people with allergies are forced to deliver a speech or face stressful situations, their allergy condition worsens over the course of the next day. Wounds take 24% longer to heal for stressed caregivers than for non-caregivers. Stress limits the ability of the immune system to fight off infections and even undermines the effectiveness of flu vaccines.

With chronic stress, all sorts of bad things can happen. Not only does stress hamper your body's ability to fight infection and heal wounds, but also increases your risk of heart disease, osteoporosis, and autoimmune diseases including type 2 diabetes. Make no mistake… this is a significant health problem.

What does this have to do with chiropractic, you ask? For many people, stress is transferred to and carried in the body in the form of clenched muscles and postural changes. Over time, the mind-body connection becomes stuck in a progressive cycle of stress, muscle tension, pain, fatigue, and deterioration. Often, when I release the physical tension in a person’s body, the pattern holding the emotions is released. Many people tell me they feel taller, lighter, and even a sense of euphoria after a treatment session with me. It is wonderful to be able to help relieve a person’s sore back, joint pain, and headaches … yet the benefits of chiropractic therapy go well beyond … to help you live and feel better!

I always try to help my patients understand the process by which they get into trouble. If we can understand the origins and effects of stress, we are able to get ahead of the problem and promote long term health. I also teach stress relieving exercises to enhance a patient’s recovery and long term improvement. A powerful tool to relieve stress is taking a mind-trip. (This has nothing to do with medication, costs you nothing to do, and there are no side effects beyond feeling better). Ask me!

Remember, if a condition which is new and acute is ignored, it can become chronic. A chronic condition, if left untreated, can become permanent.

Please feel free to discuss your stress and heath concerns with me. Find out for yourself what modern, gentle, natural, and drug free chiropractic can do for you?
