Pondering the rubber band.

Meagan was trying to get my attention the other day and being the creative soul she is, found a convenient rubber band and fired it at me! In one of those Eureka "ouch!" moments, a flash of inspiration came upon me. No... I didn’t run naked down the street like Archimedes... Not since college days anyway. Hmmmm?

Find yourself a rubber band. It may surprise you that a rubber band with all it’s marvelous uses can even improve your health. Go ahead ... pick it up ... it won’t bite.

Consider the fresh rubber band you have in your hand. When new, the band is soft and flexible. You stretch it, it snaps back. You can work with it and even have some fun! That’s the way your ligaments, muscles and tendons are supposed to be, soft and supple and stretchy. Imagine now the rubber band neglected and left out in the dry air and harsh sun. It won’t be long before it becomes stiff and brittle. Try to stretch that and you’ll see what being stiff is all about!! When you neglect your yourself, your muscles and ligaments become stiff and brittle too! Your chiropractor ... that’s me ... can help you stay supple!

Take the rubber band and begin twisting one end. Notice how the other end twists too. Keep twisting and knots begin to develop. Sometimes one knot keeps twisting upon itself. Sometimes multiple knots appear. Consider what’s twisting you up ... poor posture, work and sports injuries, stress and tension ... name it! A problem in the lower back may eventually show up as headaches because just as you twist one end of the rubber band it reflects at the other end. If you just rub the knot or pull one end, the band will stay twisted.. go ahead and try it. Like your spine, your entire system takes an overall approach to untwist and relieve it. That’s the way I do it, holistic and comprehensive, to work on you as an entire person.

Now take the rubber band and wrap it around your finger. Just as the band strangles the finger, tight muscles and shifted bones and joints can choke delicate nerves. This is typical of neuralgia or nerve pain like sciatica. What if the nerve that goes to an internal organ is choked? Would that likely limit the ability of the tissues to work their best? How might that affect your health? Your chiropractor ...that’s me ... can relieve the pressure on the nerves that may be strangling your health!!!!

Take the rubber band and wrap it comfortably around your wrist – it’s now your reminder to come in for your adjustment!
